Job Description

The African/Asian/LatinX American Outreach and Cultural Ambassadors, on a Letter of Appointment with Benefits (LOB) contract, will work 36 hours a week, or the equivalent to 90% FTE, under the direction of the Interim AVP for the NLV Campus. These three positions promote outreach activities and initiatives to build sustainable, long-term partnerships between the College of Southern Nevada (CSN)/North Las Vegas (NLV) Campus and the Southern Nevada African/Asian/LatinX American communities. These incumbents assist in developing on, and off-campus outreach; networks with community-based partners; and help organize recruitment and engagement activities to attract, engage and support African/Asian/LatinX American students. In addition, the Ambassadors will serve as liaisons between student recruitment and student activities and provide ongoing support in the research, planning, development, and implementation of programs and events that foster a positive image of CSN/NLV in the surrounding African/Asian/LatinX American communities and among the CSN/NLV Campus African/Asian/LatinX American student populations.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or at least one full year of completed college coursework.
  • Driver's license and reliable transportation to serve the NLV community and the NLV Campus
  • Experience working with marginalized communities.
  • Knowledge of the community college mission
  • Evidenced organizational skills.
  • Detail Orientated
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Evidenced good customer service experience.
  • Knowledge of African/Asian/LatinX American and first-generation communities, with demonstrated experience working with a diverse student and employee population, including all identities, ethnicities, cultures, and national origins.

Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
  • Coordinate recruitment visits to assigned high schools in the NLV Campus service area, not limited to high school presentations, college fairs, career fairs, group tours, and individual meetings with counselors and administrators, and help assess and evaluate the impact of engagement services and visits to inform program improvements.
  • Conduct outreach efforts to maintain CSN/NLV Campus presence within the African/Asian/LatinX American communities. Research and identify community-based and K-12 events throughout Southern Nevada identified as targeted outreach opportunities for engagement. Network with community-based partners to include and build strategic relationships to help establish a pipeline of prospective students to enroll at the CSN/NLV Campus. Maintain a database of diverse and or underrepresented community partnerships, contacts, and student engagement events.
  • Create, organize, and execute high school visit events focused on marginalized or traditionally underrepresented students. This half-day event will expose students to programs, resources, and a sense of community at the College of Southern Nevada/North Las Vegas Campus. Demographics will select participating schools, and students that participate will fall within the target population.
  • Collaborate with Student Life and Organizations, Student Leadership Development, Office of Inclusive Learning, and other College partners to help identify students' needs, create programming, and develop goals and services to support African/Asian/LatinX American and traditionally marginalized students locally and at CSN/NLV. Understand campus and community resources and serve as a referral agent for students needing assistance with academic and student success services.
  • Seek and develop positive and productive relationships with CSN/NLV Campus staff and faculty members.
