“Home Again” by Queensryche

Okay, I’m not ashamed to admit this video choked me up. [Embedding is for some reason turned off, so you have to watch it at YouTube.]

In a truly multi-generational project, singer Geoff Tate sings a duet with his daughter Emily, in a song partly inspired by his father’s experiences in the war.

Queensryche’s album “American Soldier” is a concept album of sorts, which started in a very personal way: A conversation between Tate and his dad about his dad’s military service, something he previously hadn’t talked about much.

Tate went away from that discussion with new perspectives, but also with the spark of an idea. He went on to interview veterans of many wars, and the result was an entire album of songs written from the perspective of — and in the voices of — those soldiers.

This video also includes photographs submitted by the members of the Military.com community, adding another layer to the intertwined, and highly personal stories.

I share this with you all, but with special thoughts going to Julie and Kurt.
